According to the United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees, 1.5 million Ukrainians fled war-torn countries within the first ten days after Russia invaded Ukraine.

"10 days. 1.5 million people. This is the largest refugee crisis since World War II. "Unless there is an immediate ending to this senseless conflict, millions more people will be displaced in the coming days," visaoperations.com reports.

According to the agency, significant numbers of Ukrainians fled to neighboring countries like Hungary, Poland, and Romania as well as another European territories.

According to local media figures, Hungary has hosted more than 140,000 Ukrainians to date.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine caused 800,000 refugees to flee to Poland.

Authorities in Romania announced on March 5 that they had received more than 50,000 Ukrainian refugees within the last two days.

Slovakian authorities announced that nearly 70,000 refugees arrived in Slovakia in the first week.

"The main flow has not started yet. It will be even bigger. We are ready, we can accommodate tens to thousands of refugees from Ukraine into our country," a Slovakian official stated in this regard. DW reported the same.

Other than Ukraine's neighboring countries, European countries are also ready to receive large numbers of Ukrainian refugees.

Authorities in Germany recently announced that they would welcome refugees from Ukraine regardless of nationality. Nancy Fraser, German Interior Minister, confirmed this decision.

The Minister stressed that, under current circumstances, the country would not accept refugees from Ukraine if they were to consider their nationality.

"We want lives to be saved. This doesn't depend upon the passport," Faeser stated, according to Deutsche Welle.

Many organizations and associations condemned Russia's military aggression in Ukraine after Russia invaded it.

European Travel Commission (ETC), stated that Russian authorities were waging military aggression, while still expressing solidarity with the Ukrainians.

The European Union Commission announced the suspension of Russia's cooperation in the European Neighborhood Instrument cross border cooperation programs, which includes the Interreg Baltic Sea program.

To help Ukrainians, the European Commission suggested that the Temporary Protection Directive be activated. This proposal would allow the EU to assist Ukrainians fleeing war by granting them residence permits and allowing them to access education and the labor market.
