Latvian Air traffic Declines by 25% Following Airspace"Closure" With Russia

Latvian statistics on air traffic have decreased by 25% after the government announced that it would be closing airspace between Russia in reaction to Russia's attack on Ukraine.

In a news release released from the Latvian Ministry of Transport, the number of flights operated by Russia has decreased by 73 percent, however, transit flights that pass through Russia continue to operate, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

"Together with other European countries, Latvia's airspace will be restricted to commercial aircraft that are registered in Russia at 23:59 on the 27th of February. As per the resolution by the Council of Europe, from February 28 the usage of Latvian airspace is banned for any Russian citizens who control directly or indirectly the aircraft regardless of the nation where it is registered." in the release states.
