Ireland Plans to Increase Bike Tourism. host the Tour de France

Ireland is set to host the opening stage of the forthcoming Tour de France in either 2026 or 2027. major representatives from the country are interested in a formal bidding process for the Tour organizers.

The Tourism Minister Catherine Martin TD and the Minister of the Economy Gordon Lyons MLA will begin their collaboration in the creation of plans to host the event within about four or five years from now, Visaoperation.com reports.

The agreement is a result of discussions with Martin and Lyons and Lyons, which took place during the week of Belfast where the Minister was discussing a joint proposal of hosting the Tour and they subsequently decided to host the event that would greatly impact tourism and sports as well as other advantages for Ireland.

"Our shared experiences in hosting major sporting events, our collaborative strategy for marketing the whole Island of Ireland as a destination for tourism, and the stunning scenery and treadmill failte that visitors can expect to experience in Ireland can all be combined to make an incredible all-island sporting event. This collaboration process is supported by me 100%, and I'll engage with colleagues from across Government regarding this in the next few months," the Minister for Tourism stated.

Furthermore the Minister of Economy stated that people will always be able to remember this year's Giro d'Italia 'Big Start' in 2014 and will also be able to stage this year's Grand Depart, which it held in 1998.

Based on the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation (ITIC) the number of tourists decreased by 20 % when compared to pre-pandemic levels.

It also shows that 338,000 of those originated from the continent of Europe in the month of March, which was lower by five percent from the previous year, indicating that it was the market with the highest growth. In the same month there was a recovery in the North American market recovered, with 230,000 people visiting.

"Members including restaurants and hotels were reporting that energy costs had increased to unprecedented and unsustainable levels and warned that profit margins have been put under severe pressure. The idea that the government will exacerbate business problems beginning next year by raising the vat rate by 50% is hard to believe,"

According to pre-pandemic estimates, 11.3 million tourists visited the country in 2019, which is 100,000, or one percent higher than the previous year. the most popular destinations for tourists included those from the United Kingdom (42 percent), Germany (seven percent) along with France (five percent).

The majority of tourists who went to Ireland went on vacation 34,000 people, which is approximately one percent higher than in the month before.
