France welcomes refugees from Ukraine and Facilitates Travel Rules for them

In line with similar European countries' examples, France is also attempting to assist Ukrainians by accepting refugees from Ukraine to France in response to the Russian attack on Ukraine.

"France, as the other European nations, will do its part in helping the Ukrainian people, and also to receive refugees from Ukraine," the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron highlighted in this context.

Officials of France have clarified the fact that residents of Ukraine with biometric passports don't require a visa for a short-stay stay for travel to countries of the Schengen Zone and even to France.

Ukrainians who don't have a biometric passport and would like to travel to France are able to visit any of the consular offices located in the countries that border Ukraine, such as Romania, Poland, and Hungary, and their circumstances can be assessed.

Citizens of Ukraine have a right to a period of 90 days in the Schengen Zone. They also have the option of obtaining legal protection within the nation in which they reside.

If you plan to stay for more than 90 days within France can make contact with or visit the prefecture that is located in their place of residence to extend their stay.

If Ukrainians living in France are holders of authorization to reside the duration of their stay in France will be extended by 3 months.

"I am requesting that you extend every Ukrainians' residence permits, which expire in the coming months or even weeks. They will all get the extension of their residency permits by at minimum one month," the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, stated in this regard.

On the 24th of February, Russia attacked Ukraine, in accordance with the directives by Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia. Vladimir Putin called the operation a "special operational military exercise". Because of the situation within Ukraine, EU countries have put sanctions as well as various restrictions for Russia.

Recently, French Presidency Emmanuel Macron denounced the "lies" that are being spread by the Russian government Russia to justify conflict in Ukraine But, Macron said that he will keep in touch with Russian President Vladimir Putin to try and get a ceasefire.

France is currently assuming the European Union Council's presidency; this is why it has recently proposed activating the directive on temporary protection of the EU to address the influx of people from Ukraine. The announcement has been verified by the Minister of Interior Gerald Darmanin.

The Minister also stated that the activation of the temporary directive on protection will be discussed at the next session of EU Justice and Interior Ministers which will take place today, on the 3rd of March.
