Finland Visa Application Requirements

There are several types of visas available depending on your purpose for traveling to Finland.

You will need a Finnish Schengen Visa if you plan to visit, study, work, and live permanently in Finland.

Since 2001, you can apply for the Finnish Schengen Visa. This was when Finland became an EU member state and a member of the Schengen Area.

In response to the Coronavirus epidemic, Finland and the rest of the EU/Schengen Area members implemented an EU-wide ban on entry for third-country nationals in mid-March 2020.

For a Finnish Visa Application, you will need the following documents:

The Finland Schengen Visa application can be filed electronically. You can then print a copy.

Two photos must be attached. The photo must be in passport format. It should include a recent, whole-face photograph with a light background. Find out more about the photo requirement for a Finnish Visa.

You will need your passport and copies of any previous visas that are valid for at most 3 months after the return date. At least two blank pages must be included in your passport.

Copy of the reservation for your return flight. If the visa is required, it is not recommended that you purchase your ticket before applying for the visa.

Confirmation of minimum 30,000 EUR coverage in Finland and the whole Schengen region.

A cover letter explaining the purpose of your visit to Finland.

A copy of the return ticket reservation, including dates and flight numbers that specify entry and exit to Finland. If visas are not required, it is not a good idea to buy the ticket before you apply for the visa.

Documentation proving civil status (marriage certificate or birth certificate of children, death certificate for a spouse, ration card, if applicable).

If you are employed:

• Employment contract
• The most recent 6-month bank statement
• Leave authorization letter from employer
• Income Tax Return (ITR), or Certificate of Income Tax Deducted at the Source of Salary

Self-employed:

• A copy of your business license
• Bank statement for the company of the most recent 6 months
• Income Tax Return (ITR)

For students:

• You must show proof of enrollment
• Certificate of no objection from school or university

If you are retired:

• Last 6 months pension statement

If applicable:

• Property proof for the last 6 months shows regular income
• Other than the required documentation, additional documents should be included depending on the purpose of your Finnish Visa application.

Additional documents needed for Finland Visa Application:

Finland Tourist Schengen Visa:

• Invitation letter with the address and phone number of a family member- if relevant
• Statement from the bank for the past 6 months
• Passport copies

Finland Visa for Business Purposes

• Invitation letter from Finnish company to which you will be traveling and their address, together with dates
• Your employer will issue a certificate confirming/allowing you to travel for business purposes
• If the companies had trade relations in the past, the evidence must be presented to prove such events
• Statement of business bank accounts for the last 6 months
• Memorandum and Article of Association in original certified copy (registered with joint-stock companies) Trade License (first issued and present renewal), Proprietorship/Partnership documents.
• Concerning expenses incurred by the applicant during their stay in Schengen, either the employer (or the partner company) must indicate the amount of the expenses on the invitation.

Finland Visa for Medical Purposes

• A local medical report
• A Finnish doctor or hospital will issue a medical attestation confirming your appointment and your medical condition.
• Receipt of payment for medical fees

Finland Visa for Cultural, Religious, and Sports Purposes

• Invitation letter from above-mentioned authorities containing details about the nature of activities or events - the purpose for visit, and expense coverage.
• Names of applicants (crew members)
• Stay duration
• Travel itinerary

• Identification of the applicant
• The purpose of the journey (negotiations and meetings, events by intergovernmental organizations, consultations, etc.
• Stay duration

Finland Visa for Study Training, Research or any other type of Internship Purposes

• A certificate of enrollment allows you to attend courses.
• Certificate of completion for courses taken
• Financial sustenance

Finland Visa for the Wife/Husband a Finnish Citizen:

• Finnish citizenship proof (ID card, consular card, or certification of Finnish naturalization order or nationality)
• Finnish marriage certificate
• Finnish family record book

Finland Airport Transit Visa

• Visa or other types of entry permit for transit countries
• Take a photo of your valid visa to your final destination

Finland Visa for Children Under-Age:

• Documentation proving proof of regular income from parents (work contract with a specified monthly income, a bank statement, or business license).
• Parental travel consent (notarized travel permission)
• If one parent is a resident of another country, their notarized parental consent for travel must be signed.
• *Note Underage children must be accompanied by their guardian or parent when applying to the Finnish consulate/embassy in their home country.
