New EU System That Replaces Passport Stamps to Start Operating by 2022

The new scheme of the European Union, called the Entry/Exit System, may be operational by 2022. The EES will record entry and exit data, as well as refusal to entry data for third-country nationals crossing external borders of Member States. It also determines the conditions of access to the EES for law enforcement purposes. The system will replace passport stamps as they are no longer required once the EES begins storing and registering all entry/exit data.

The EES was adopted by the EU Commission in October 2017. It was set to enter full force in 2020. However, a communication officer from the EU has informed me not.MD, that it is likely to be fully implemented by 2022.

" The EES entry-exit registration scheme will be in operation by 2022," an officer stated when asked about the implementation deadline.

The officer has not provided any explanations as to why the system launch was delayed for two more years. The launching of the ETIAS has been delayed by the EU. This electronic system allows visitors from non-visa-exempt countries to access the Schengen Zone and tracks them.

In an effort to modernize the management of external borders, the EU established the Entry/Exit System in order to improve the quality and efficiency of the Schengen Area's external border controls. It is designed to assist the Member States in dealing with an increasing number of travelers without the need to increase the number of border guards. It also helps to identify third-country citizens who don't / no longer meet the entry requirements.

All embassies and other authorities that are responsible for processing Schengen visa applications must consult the EES as soon as the EEA becomes effective. Before making a decision to cancel, revoke, or extend the validity of an issued visa, the EES should be consulted.

The system will also save you the hassle of stamping passports. All entry and exit information will be recorded and stored in the system.
